Oh yeah. I’m going there. Long ago, before I was a Real Estate Agent, I was unaware that people carpeted bathrooms. It had never even occured to me to do this. The first time I saw it (A midcentury home with shag green carpet in the master bathroom) I giggled and stared. “Really!?” This is pretty much the reaction of buyers when we walk into a bathroom with carpet on the floor.
I get the pull. Something nice and soft on your feet when you step out of the shower or are sitting on the toity. But oh man, unless you’re changing that carpet every two weeks, it is so not an ideal situation.
I make this plea to sellers with carpet in their bathroom:
– Even if you have it professionally cleaned every day, get rid of it before you sell.
– Even if YOUR husband has the best aim on the planet, put in some tile or linoleum before you sell.
– Even if you have no idea why it might be weird to have carpet in your house and can’t imagine why I would pick on your bathroom decor this way- Don’t try to sell your house with carpet in the bathroom.
Lest anyone think this is a rich/poor old/young issue, one of these pictures is from an estate sale on a modest Tacoma home, the other is from a million dollar custom.
