I spent the weekend with my aunt and uncle in Dallas. As a treat they always take me on a tour of high end homes in Dallas. It’s always a lot of fun. This time I met a very cool Realtor named Carla who was nice enough to talk with me about the market there and answer some of my questions about the opulent homes they sell in that city.
She explained to me that the reason houses in Dallas are so over the top is because everyone has money and there is nothing to do. “Everyone goes shopping and makes their houses fabulous. There aren’t any lakes or mountains or other things to do.”
After looking around all day I also realized that since it is flat there are no views. No views of lakes or mountains or anything else- so the inside of your house and your yard are your view. You have to make your view yourself.
While its really fun to look at these houses (I really look forward to it) it made me realize that we are so lucky in the northwest to have the amazing scenery we have. No matter what the inside of the house looks like, if I’m spending over 1 million dollars I sort of expect to see Mt. Rainier or Puget Sound, right?
